Exhibition Design
This exhibition was developed in celebration of Robert Rauschenberg’s Centennial, in coordination with the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation and as part of a global series of exhibitions honoring the artist’s 100th birthday. Presented at the Academy Art Museum, the project joins an international network of institutions marking this milestone year.
The exhibition centers on the rarely exhibited 100-foot photograph Chinese Summerhall, accompanied by twenty related studies and editions. Our work began with a clear spatial challenge: how to install a 100-foot artwork in a gallery where the longest wall measures just 40 feet. We developed a strategy that turned this constraint into an immersive opportunity. Wrapping the photograph along a temporary wall to create a continuous unfolding panorama allowing visitors to move within the image, rather than standing apart from it, and get a unique perspective of being immersed within the work.
